OUR STORY

Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad was incorporated on 21st January 1997 as Malaysia's first life reinsurance company. The Company was founded as a joint venture between Life Insurance Association of Malaysia and Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated.

On 20 March 2000, the company launched its new corporate logo to revitalise and focus its direction to capture emerging reinsurance markets.

Official Launch of the Company

Malaysia's first professional life reinsurance company, Malaysian Life Reinsurance Group Berhad, was officially launched on 5 May 1997 by the Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. The joint venture between the Life Insurance Association of Malaysia (LIAM) and the Reinsurance Group of America, Incorporated (RGA), was the result of a two-year effort in response to the Government's call to LIAM for the establishment of a national life reinsurance company to support the industry in Malaysia and the surrounding ASEAN countries.

The Company was geared to invigorate the national life insurance industry, taking Malaysia one step closer to becoming a regional financial hub.

New Logo Unveil

On 20 March 2000, the Company unveiled its new corporate identity via a new logo, MLRe, to highlight the Company’s role of elevating the Malaysian life insurance industry to greater heights.

MLRe aspired to provide the industry with the opportunity to gauge its international market expertise based on its strategic alliance with the Reinsurance Group of America (RGA), Incorporated, one of the world’s largest life and health reinsurers. Seeking to identify steadfast guiding principles, MLRe unified the best of the two company’s ideologies to form a holistic reinsurance company that has been structured locally and supported internationally. MLRe envisioned that in the new millennium, intelligent products branding and price strategies based on value-enhanced services and products would be the trend to follow. As such, the Company poised itself to consolidate and capitalised on the opportunities arising from these trends.

The new logo revitalised the Company’s corporate image by emphasising its most powerful and impressive quality – “excellence, innovation, trustworthiness and home-grown expertise”. MLRe was then  confident of the implementation of the new corporate identity to meet the demands of the new millennium.
